Brett Chepenik Explains The Types And Benefits Of Push- Ups

A push-up is also known as press-up which is a common calisthenics exercise performed in a prone position by lowering the body using arms. Push-ups are a basic exercise used in athletic training or physical education or most commonly in military physical training. This exercise is beneficial since it trains the pectoral muscles and triceps with ancillary benefits to the deltoids, serratus anterior, coracobrachialis and the midsection as a whole. Many health experts consider push-ups to be one of the best exercise for overall body fitness.

There are innumerable variations of push-ups which can be easily practiced at home and do not require any technical equipment. A basic push-up is done by lying down on the ground with face down. The palms are kept flat on the ground shoulder- width spaced out. Feet should be together whereas legs and back should be straight. A lot of variations can be added to the common push-ups. One of the variations includes bringing the thumbs and index fingers together and pointing the elbows towards the knees. Wide arm push-ups work more on outer chest and help stretch the outer lats. Close arm push-ups are performed with both hands directly below the shoulders. This variation works more on the triceps and the chest and if done properly stretches the middle back.

Push-ups are an essential part of any exercise program. Timed Exercise, a revolutionary workout system created by Brett Chepenik, includes push-up exercises as part of its regimen. In addition, the program includes body and free weight movements to create a high intensity workout designed for each individual to train at his or her maximum level of effort.
