MLM Success Series: How To Approach Friends & Family Correctly About Your Network Marketing Business
Immediately when you initially get into the foray of network marketing what is the FIRST thing we’re told to do? That’s right, write down a names list of everybody you’ve ever known from the time you were pretty much born. From the young woman at Mickey Ds who sold you your burger all the way up to the doctor that hit you on the ass immediately after you were born, everybody is a target. The predicament is that it’s thoroughly unnatural, you sound uneasy, and your friends shut you down (sometimes violently) and you lose that friendship and/or your determination to move forward.
Now, the new teaching is to NEVER talk to friends and family at all about our business, to speak only to people who already have an entrepreneurial mindset to start with. Though it’s unquestionably true you will only want team members who possess the proper mindset, if you don’t have the air of being successful already, these people will shut you down even worse, as they have no idea who you are; to them you’re just someone who is eating away at their valuable time because you were too tense to get your message out to them correctly. This is because you have no place to really make a start, no real way of really honing your new skills (especially if you’re learning a brand new skillset to begin with.)
And this, of course, brings us back to friends and family. It’s always best to start with people you know, but you need to find a way to do this without all the undue stress. This article will guide you through exactly how to contact your friends and family to see your presentation without the excessive drama.
When asking a friend to do you a favor, say, give you a ride, they would probably help you out, right? All in all, it’s the exact same thing here. What you should do is basically ask if they can help you with your presentation skills. You would basically say something resembling this:
“Hey John, it’s Roy. Hey listen, can you do me a favor? I just started with a business, and I need to do some presentations and I’ve never done them before. Can you help me out and give me your opinion on what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong? Can I trust you to give me an honest assessment?”
As opposed to talking about how we just signed up in a brand new business that is “absolutely dominating right now” and how they “can’t afford to ignore this great opportunity,” we’re straightforward about giving a business presentation, completely without the need for a scripted sales pitch that’s simply completely out of place. The “trick” here is that you honestly intend to talk to them about wanting their advice. If you’re honest about this (unless they’re complete jerks) then you will have them intently watching your presentation with their guard down wanting to help you out. Also, there’s also a better chance that they’ll actually benefit from your presentation and join your team! You get to keep your friends, you get to show more people your presentation, and you eliminate the BS of rejection. A total package of success.
