Someone asked about tights, which is, I suppose, not surprising. Men who do ballet do wear tights and T-shirts when they practise. But, when I started, I didn’t. Jane said I could work in shorts and T-shirt until I was reasonably sure that I would carry on. After the first few weeks I was, and so asked Jane where I could find these. Her face broke into a broad smile; she sent me to a shop.

Ballet shops aren’t geared to the male shopper, the principal colour in evidence being pink. Store The assistant, a middle aged woman, looked at me as if I were some sort of oddity; why would any man come to buy kit for his little girl, was the question written all over her face.

The change in her expression was a  to remember when I told her that I needed the stuff for myself. I had difficulty in not laughing. For every she hauled out the largest size she had. She was the oldest in the group and had come back to ballet to get  and supple again after a number of years of doing nothing physical at all.

Jane had warned them of my arrival and they all welcomed me with open arms, in a manner of speaking. Sale The lesson started and I must confess, I struggled to do the stuff they were learning. But, happily, the stiffness from which I had suffered for the first few weeks was a g of the past, more or less.

Afterwards, one of them told me that three of them were going to the coffee shop and asked me to join them. I hadn’t any arrangement to meet anyone (read Shinky) so I accepted the offer.
