The overall testing time for the computer-based GRE revised General Test is about three hours and 45 minutes, plus short breaks. There are six sections to the revised test: one Analytical Writing section, two Verbal Reasoning sections, two Quantitative Reasoning sections, one unscored section that may be a Verbal or Quantitative section and may appear at any point in the computer-based GRE revised General Test and an identified research section that is not scored.

The highest score achievable on the new GRE is 340. The score range for both the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections is 130-170.The Analytical Writing section will always be first, while the other five sections may appear in any order.

In Analytical writing section there will be one issue based topic and other argument based topic. For each topic the examinee has 30-minutes. There will be two Verbal Reasoning section and two Quantitative Reasoning section. Each section will have app. 20 questions. There will be one unscored section that can be either quantitative or verbal section.There will be 10-minute break following the third section, and a 1-minute break between the other test sections.

The new developments that are there in the revised GRE are:

• preview and review capabilities within a section
• “mark and review” feature to tag questions, so that you can skip and return later
• ability to change/edit answers within a section
• on-screen calculator for the Quantitative Reasoning section
• less reliance on vocabulary and more emphasis on reading.

In the revised GRE, the questions in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures have a variety of formats. Some require you to select a single answer choice;others require you to select one or more answer choices, and yet others require you to enter a numeric answer. Make sure when answering a question that you understand what response is required.

Your verbal Reasoning and quantitative Reasoning scores will be determined by the numbers of questions you answer correctly. Nothing is subtracted from a score if you answer a question incorrectly. Therefore, to maximize your scores on the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative measures, it is best to answer every question.

Multiple answer problems will have multiple correct answers. Your answer will be considered correct, only if you select all the answers that are correct. Sometimes, the problem will tell you how many answer choices to pick; other times, it will not. Again, this change is basically a change in question type and not in question content.For success in the GRE exam one has to go through the rigorous study pattern.
