Using Phone Number Verification To Stop Fraud In Its Tracks

Today there are a variety of options available to lower the risk of fraudulent activity for online purchases.  Everybody is aware of the fact that the internet is a dangerous place to work due to the ability of hackers and spammers to steal information as it is entered onto a website.  Phone number verification services are available to help businesses confirm the identity of the person making a purchase or requesting services online.

There are many different ways that a person might use the internet to do business.  Many different companies offer online ordering for their customers and request a credit card for payment.  Today, hackers and spammers have found new ways to obtain this information, stepping outside of the ability of many of the anti-spam programs that were created to prevent online identity theft and other things of that type.

Phone number verification works as an effective method of protecting your credit cards and bank numbers when you purchase online.  The service adds a step to the ordering process which requires a person to enter a phone number.  Hackers and spammers are not going to enter their own phone number obviously because this will increase the chance of being traced.  For many, the phone number verification step stops them immediately.

The process is simple.  The customer enters their phone number, landline or cell, into the form.  The program immediately calls that number or sends an SMS text to the number which contains a special personal identification number for that person.  The code is then entered into the form and the order can proceed.  If the correct PIN is not entered, the order will be cancelled.

This offers protection to the company receiving the order as well.  Millions of dollars in sales are lost each year through the fraudulent use of credit cards.  The credit card order is authorized, the product is shipped, and then it is discovered that the card number was stolen.  When this happens, the credit card company does not release the funds to the organization with which the order was placed.

By using a process such as phone number verification, businesses can save themselves hundreds of dollars each year that would otherwise be lost due to fraudulent credit card use.  This helps protect the profit of the company as well as helping to protect their customers from losses associated with fraud as well.
