NYC Data Recovery: How to Recover from a Hard Disk with Bad Blocks?

With the rise of computers and Internet most businesses in and around Staten Island and New York City have become heavily dependent on computers. The desktops and laptops of busy professionals are jam packed with essential files, if this information is lost it can affect the company adversely. Nowadays, busy offices use minimum of paperwork all the important stats are packed in their computers. Though there are stringent security features set up by the companies using services of a reputed Staten Island technical support but there are some instances when you feel helpless. Technology is good in many senses, but it is also prone to faults. One such fault is known as bad blocks in hard disk.

Bad block is a sector or damaged area on a hard disk. Such a problem arises when there is a physical defect in the magnetic media of the hard disk. If you run a disk utility program such as Scandisk or Norton Disk Doctor such faults are marked in the report as “B”. Many businesses suffer due to this. Only trained professionals with expertise in NYC data recovery should be used in such circumstances.

Many users have reported that problems with bad block on hard disks can be overcome with low level formatting of the hard disk. But the problem in this scenario is: current physical formatting programs do not physically format the hard disk. With this practice there is an increased chance of damage to hard disk. There is a signal projected in the hard disk tracks which is called Servo. Servo guides the hard disk head. When you format the hard disk at a low level these Servos are erased and the hard disk will not be able to operate any longer.

Low level formatting programs can detect the bad sectors and wipe the disk (for security reasons). Though their name suggests low level formatting but they do not carry out formatting of any sort. Such programs provide effective functions. They create a map of the bad sectors within your hard disk. When such a program is run it scans the disk and seeks all defective sectors and includes a disk map with error reports.

When it comes to high level formatting for your hard disk using the Format command, the command skips most sectors contained in the bad sector table. There will be no area or sector marked as “B” (Bad Block) in the FAT. But these defective bad block areas remain on the disk. In the high level formatting the defective sectors within the hard disk are not removed. They are noted in the table of bad sectors. The system ignores these sectors and these remain hidden.

If you see bad sectors coming up even after these procedures have been run, you should immediately get rid of the hard disk. It means that the magnetic surface of the hard disk is deteriorating. There is bad block recovery software available in the market. But they should be used with judiciousness otherwise you may stand the risk of losing some valuable data. Help from a reputed NYC data recovery services is crucial when you face such problems.
