Select designable number plate for your new car

In UK, when a new car is bought, it is the government rule to get the car registered. In fact, it is the UK government who first started this registration procedure to keep track of the number of cars that are moving around the country. This was done to maintain the record of the cars along with the car owner. So if any accident occurs, it becomes easier for the government to search the car owner if the car has faced any accident or has committed any crime.

Types of system used by the government for registration

To make the work easier, the UK government itself has introduced some types of registration system has been introduced. These types are as follows:-

  • Suffix system – As the number of cars increased so the demand for registration also increased. In this system, the number plate that has been issued includes a letter code at the end of the number. This indicates the year on which the number has been issued. Such registration system helps the people to identify the age of the car if they are buying second hand ones.
  • Prefix system – The reverse formate of the suffix system for registration plate is popularly known as prefix system. In this system, the number that indicated the year come front. S the region code that was used automatically goes at the end. Though the number has been reversed in this system but it has same advantage as compare to the suffix system.
  • Present system – In the present system, the registration system is different as compare to the previous ones. Two letters are being used which indicates as the regional identifier. This letter shows the age of the car. After this, three random numbers are being used. These numbers are given to provide unique identity to the cars that are being sold.
  • Dateless number plate – This registration system was introduced in 1903. Under this system, the registration mark provided is arranged according to the area of a country from where the vehicle has been registered. The name ‘Dateless’ has been provided because the registration plate doesn’t contain the age of the car. But this doesn’t mean that the registration plate is not legalised. In fact, the car can be transferred to any age group while selling it. Moreover, this type of number plate is quite cheaper as compare to the other ones. This type is said to be more or less similar to that of Northern Ireland style.

These systems have helped the government as well as the local people to identify the cars according to their registration number plates. Being the owner of a car, it is one of the first jobs that you should do after you buy a car. This registration will also help in getting you driving licence if you require.
