Healthy Fish Recipes for the Summer

Fish can prove to be something of an acquired taste for many people: it seems to be the case that you either love it or hate it and there are very few people in between. This is especially the case when it comes to children and their love for fish will not really develop until they reach adulthood. It really does not need to be like this and there are oodles of healthy fish recipes for the summer available that could easily turn this trend around.

For a start, what is the one thing we all love to do whenever we get a few days of better weather? – which admittedly isn’t very often. That’s right! We all get our barbecues out and resort back to the days of our prehistoric ancestors; cooking food on fire as is always best to do. There is nothing to stop you from preparing tasty fish recipes for the summer using the barbecue, and the taste and texture of the fish when cooked in this way, is likely to be an excellent way of introducing younger ones to the concept.

You might even like to think about a delicious fish pie which has been covered in creamy and buttery mashed potatoes. Add the pieces of fish to a tasty white sauce and this could easily convert the previously fish-hating members of your family. Cottage and shepherd’s pie are always firm favourites in most households, so when a dish containing fish looks like this, psychologically this can be the best way of educating pallets.

As we can see, then, there tends to be a lot of negative psychology involved when it comes to children and indeed some adults eating fish. There is a big difference between placing a whole fish in front of someone, with the eyes staring up at them, compared with disguising the fish in a more appetising dish. The key seems to be in the disguise, because whilst many people may hate to eat fish on its own (I’m one of these!), if it is draped in batter or bread crumbs, it suddenly becomes so much more appealing.
