The ‘Honeymooners’ Wed
It’s not every day that a couple gets to honeymoon before the actual wedding and it’s certainly not every day the reason for this twist on tradition is because the groom will head 7,000 miles away from his bride, just days after the wedding. For Adam and Elise Clem, however, little of this matters. In fact, the only thing that really matters to this young couple is the fact that they actually get to have their dream wedding. Despite the bumps along the way, the 25-year-old Alabama natives had their dream come true when they exchanged vows in a picturesque sunset ceremony at the Dutch Gazebo at Sandals Whitehouse European Village and Spa.
In a perfect world, Adam and Elise would have been married in May. Their plans were shattered, however, when Adam, a captain in the United States Marine Corps got news that he was being re-deployed to Afghanistan. The young couple began doubting whether they would ever get the chance to be married. Luckily, the plans for deployment were postponed and through negotiations with his superiors, Adam was able to reach a compromise which led to a new wedding date, but with a catch – deployment would be days after the wedding.
Marrying the love of her life with the thought of his imminent departure looming over their heads is not easy for Elise, but she is comforted by the fact that they’ve had the opportunity to have their dream wedding. Adam, however, is taking things much harder. He’s concerned that his new wife will be left alone so soon after their wedding. “I am so sorry to have to put her through this,” he said, “and I can’t put into words how much I will miss her.”
The beautiful bridesmaids stunned in lovely coral dresses accessorised with fuschia, pink and squash parasols, while the groomsmen were sharp in tan suits with mandarin bowties. The bride, of course, was a picture of radiance in a Lazaro sheath dress that she literally hunted down after seeing it on the show Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta. The groom, who wore his uniform – and wore it well – looked the part of a true fairy-tale knight.
Determined to make the most of their time together before deployment, the couple thoroughly enjoyed their pre-wedding honeymoon at Sandals Whitehouse. Though disappointed that their post-wedding life will not be like that of most married couples, Adam and Elise are thrilled that they had the chance to have their island wedding and keep their spirits up with hope that Adam’s six-month deployment will end just in time for a homecoming dress.
