Nissan Sunny, the solo reason behind Nissan’s success in India

Nissan Motors India has been witnessing good growth every month despite the slowdown in the Indian car market. Most of the car makers are witnessing low sales, while Nissan Motors India on the other hand is roping in good number of sales posting good growth each month. Nissan sometime back was struggling in India with its low sales as its range of cars were not able to create any magic in the Indian car market. Nissan despite of having a small car Nissan Micra in its portfolio failed to rope in good number of sales every month. Nissan Micra which is present in India in both petrol and diesel version could not do any good. The car has good looks and also has everything that is needed to make a car successful however, it still could not create any magic in the domestic market. Things turned around for Nissan in India when it launched its mid size sedan Nissan Sunny in the Indian car market last year in 2011.

Nissan Sunny was earlier launched in petrol version only , the response for the sedan was good resulting in surge in sales every month. This affected the sales of Nissan Motors in India positively and started resulting in profit gain every month. Nissan Sunny Diesel version was launched soon after the launch of the petrol version in India which further played role of a catalyst and resulted in surge in sales. From the time of Nissan Sunny’s launch in India the car maker is doing good every month registering high sales every month. Let us have look into what makes Nissan Sunny a complete hit in India. First of all the Nissan Sunny price in India has been placed perfectly which is one of the major reasons it is doing pretty well in India. The looks and interiors of the sedan area also impressive and that is why it has been termed as ‘caaaaaaaar’ since it offers ample things at an affordable price.

Now Nissan is also gearing up to bring its low cost brand Datsun in India. Nissan Motors India made announcement regarding the same in the beginning of this year. More details have been risen about the launch of the brand of late here are the details. The brand will be focusing at emerging markets like India, Indonesia and Russia. However, the brand could also make its debut in other emerging markets apart from these where it would be viable to launch low priced cars under this brand to the customers of those markets where it is anticipated to do good business.

The car manufactured under the brand will not only be low priced but will also offer excellent fuel economy making them completely irresistible cars. The reason behind the low price tag would be the heavy localisation which would make it possible to tag these cars aggressively. These cars would be aimed at attracting the new or first time buyers who look for an option in the A segment, therefore Maruti, Hyundai and Tata are likely to get a tough competitor at least in the Indian car market. The company is also thinking on the lines to launch the low cost brand in the African car market.

To tag the car at low price, the company first needs to have a manufacturing facility of their own where the cars could be assembled locally which would help in bringing down the cost of the cars. In case if the company does not want to open a manufacturing facility of their own, it could either import cars from other markets where it takes them the minimum cost to build teh cars , like India, Indonesia etc. In India car makers like Maruti Suzuki India, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors follow the same process which helps them earn profit.

The first car under the low cost datsun brand will launch in the year 2014, so there is still a lot of time for the launch of cars under Datsun to be launched. India could get a hatchback with Datsun badge which could make a appearance at the 12th Indian Auto Expo that is slated to held in India in the year 2014. Another low cost hatchback could hit the Indian roads in late 2014 or early 2015. The company is said to be mulling over the possibility of launching a low priced MPV, however it is still not clear whether it will be for the Indiana car market or not. For that we will have to wait and watch whether it comes to the Indian car market or not.
