Passenger traffic at Yeager Airport is up by about 10 percent so far this year.

Figures released by Yeager last week show about 221,000 passengers had boarded planes through the end of October, an increase of 22,000 over the same 10-month period in 2009.

Yeager spokesman Brian Belcher told The Charleston Daily that the increase is due to new routes and competition on the airport’s Chicago flights.

Belcher says the growth in passenger traffic is expected to continue next year when low-cost carrier Spirit adds flights to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
