The parade will culminate a day of activities
Downtown Vision Executive Director Beverly Schmitz Glass said the parade is an opportunity for members of the public to get together with folks from their church, work, charming prom dressesfriends, or from a civic organization to put together a float, dress like Santa’s helpers and distribute candy, or sing their hearts out.
Glass said Main Street from the Finney County Exhibition Building’s parking lot to Hackberry Street will be darkened with the exception of the Christmas lights so all parade participants are encouraged to light their floats so the crowd can see them from the sidewalks.
“We have live ones over at the nursery, but not the Fraser fir,” said Kim Oppold. “We also have poinsettias, Christmas cactus, wreaths and garland.”
The Fraser fir is the most common live Christmas tree with its uniform pyramid-shaped structure which, when purchased uncut, reaches a height of about 80 feet and a diameter of one to one-and-a-half feet.
The Fraser’s branches are turned slightly upward, making it perfect for supporting those precious holiday ornaments.
The parade will culminate a day of activities: Western State Bank will offer free carriage rides from 1 to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Grant Avenue.
Commerce Bank’s Tuba Christmas on Grant Avenue is scheduled at 3 p.m. Parade participants will line up at the fairground’s parking lot at 5 p.m. prior to the start of the parade at 6 p.m.
Vendors will be offering coffee and hot chocolate, roasted nuts, hot dogs and popcorn for the parade watchers.
