Exercise is an Integral Part of Balanced Health
In the field of natural health it is important to remember that balanced health is more than a healthy diet. Although focusing on good nutrition is important, we must not forget that physical exercise is also an important component of overall health and fitness. Studies conducted by Harvard and the University of San Diego concluded that sexual dysfunction among middle aged adults is least likely to occur in those who exercise regularly for 20 to 30 minutes daily.
A fully balanced exercise program should consist of aerobic activity, strength training, stretching, and flexibility exercises.
It is recommended that a healthy individual should participate in aerobic exercise three times per week for 30-60 minutes. Aerobic exercise can include running, swimming, bike-riding, using stair-simulation machines, as well as most sports.
Strength training is recommended as a form of physical fitness training that improves muscle tone and improves bone density. These attributes help prevent injury and reduce stress on joints as the body ages. Strength training is recommended: three to four times per week, every other day.
Yoga is a great form of exercise because it builds strength, flexibility, and balance. It consists of a series of poses that can be tailored to virtually all body types, ages, and abilities. The most difficult pose in yoga, and for that matter in life, is total relaxation. An essential component of health, relaxation is an exercise that can be practiced in almost any circumstance and promotes overall wellness. It can be as simple as regular breathing exercises. Studies have determined that cardiovascular disease risk may be reduced by doing yoga breathing exercises for 10-15 minutes per day.
Reducing stress will make regular exercise even more effective. Meditation has been shown to reduce stress related conditions, as has regular exercise. Combine a healthy diet with regular exercise in a quest for balanced health.
