Tallit for girls – a statement of faith

Since the very beginning of Judaism, Jews were required to wear “fringes” on their garments as a reminder of the 613 laws by which a Jew is required to lead their lives – the numerical value of the Hebrew for fringes (tzitzit) is 600 and the 8 threads and 5 knots from which each fringe is made bring the total to 613.  Over the centuries, the fringes developed into the tallit.  Today, the tallit is a symbol of our faith and is worn by both men and women, there are even tallit for girls who to wish to make a statement regarding their commitment to their faith, their family and their community.
