How High School Impacts Students

High school is a defining time in your child’s career advancement. A young person is more motivated to perform academically in the right learning environment, being guided by qualified teaching staff and with modern and state of the art facilities. The impact of peers and friends in a student’s life cannot be ignored. If your child is approaching high school age, it’s time for you to decide a decent place for him or her to proceed with studies.

Public schools do not offer the best amenities. Large numbers of students in each class does not always encourage students to perform to their best potential as they do not get the personal supervision of their teachers. Classes have a poor teacher to student ratio in state and government run schools. Lack of funding does not allow students to have access to multiple extracurricular activities. Private institutions offer many more extracurricular activities and preparation for college entrance and SATs.

Admission to private high schools is much more selective than for public schools. The admissions are basically merit based and also consider factors like the student’s special interests, other talents and achievement potential. Most of the premier institutions are also integrated and do not offer any sort of discrimination based on religion, creed or ethnicity.

Private schools are no doubt more expensive. However private high school offers numerous other benefits beyond academics. The physical, mental and emotional discipline that is inculcated in your child is worth the extra tuition fee. Pass outs and graduates from these private funded institutions are more likely to go to college and achieve their academic and professional goals. Special attention is given to students to prep them for entrance into college.

Parents want their children attending an institution that offers a safe learning environment. With the proliferation of firearms, drugs and other influences into state and government sponsored institutions; parents are not assured their children are in a safe and secure environment.

Private schools also impose some minimum dress code on the students to ensure that they are modestly attired and do not turn up to class looking untidy, shabby and provocatively dressed. Discipline is one of the major concerns that is addressed in private run schools.

Another aspect of the public school system that has disillusioned many parents is the quality of the faculty. Poorly trained teachers cannot inspire and motivate students. Sometimes the unruly classes and large, unmanageable class sizes also compound the teacher’s inability to execute their duties in public high school.
