DeTech Incorporates Safety Experts For Training and Testing

The services of fire safety expert Dr. Larry Grosse, Ph.D., along with fire safety expert William Kennedy, were incorporated by DeTech Firesense Technologies to create a testing and certification process for their safety consultants and installers.  DeTech has always been the leader in fire safety education for homeowners and they are now leading the way in training the people that are involved in helping families make purchase and installation decisions in their homes.

This education and testing is very intense.  DeTech’s Vice President of Dealer Development, Bill Driscoll, said, “I am absolutely convinced that only a very small percentage of people outside our company could pass our strict testing.  We are proud to be the leader in this important and usually overlooked aspect of home fire safety.”

Dr. Larry Grosse led the “Full Scale Research and Testing of Fire Detection Systems in a Residential Structure” when he was the head of construction sciences at Texas A&M University.  His findings were later subjected to a peer-review process and published in the late 90’s.  Dr. Grosse’s testing proved that the origin and type of fire should be considered when determining how detection equipment will respond.  This research helped change the thinking of many fire officials and encouraged them to begin to recommend the householder to consider the use of additional protection and technologies for an increased level of protection in the home.

William Kennedy spent his career as a safety expert, beginning as a firefighter, then chief at College Station, TX and finally as a safety and building consultant.  His passion for safety has long been an inspiration to many in the fire safety field and DeTech was fortunate to have his input on such an important aspect of their training process.

Many companies employ salespeople to evaluate the fire safety needs for families.  DeTech believes it that each family deserves to have an expert to assist with what could be a life or death decision.  Besides this initial training and testing, DeTech has a 16-hour a day “hotline” that all Safety Consultants can call if they ever come across a situation or home design that they are not sure about.  Dr. Grosse’s expertise is also available through a forum on the DeTech intranet that all Consultants have 24-hour access to have questions answered directly from Dr. Grosse himself.

DeTech’s goal to have all consultants become safety experts has become a reality because of the expertise and dedication of Dr. Grosse, Ph.D. and William Kennedy.
