Mobile CMS and Its Benefits to your Business

Mobile CMS is a powerful content management system in a mobile platform which is capable of storing and delivering contents and services to mobile devices including smartphones, tablets, iPads, netbooks, eBook readers and PDAs. Mobile gadgets are very handy and most people always carry any of one or two of these gadgets wherever they go. Making contents and information accessible through mobile devices can benefit both mobile users and businesses. This makes all types of information accessible anytime and anywhere.

A lot of information can be displayed through Mobile CMS. This includes mobile libraries, emails, documents, information about businesses, and other digital information. Most Mobile CMS are designed and developed with open source technologies such as Linux, Java, PHP and other database technologies. Companies who developed them usually make Mobile CMS applications adaptable to different operating system like Windows, Google, Android and the likes.

Depending on your company’s needs, there are three primary mobile CMS contents you can choose from.

1. One-site approach – One Website for both desktop and mobile visitors

It means that the contents between the main Website and the mobile site are the same and can remain identical. Managing contents are easier since updates in both main and mobile Websites can be done from the same administration interface. When there are updates, they are made available on regular computers and mobile devices.

In addition, both the main Website and mobile site have the same URL. It is also possible for mobile viewers to revert to the main Website if they have to access modules that are not yet optimized for mobile devices.

2. Two-site approach – One Website for desktop visitors and one Website for mobile visitors.

This approach is useful for companies who want different contents for their main Website visitors and mobile visitors. To do this, two uniquely built and designed templates are used.

Although the two Websites have different contents, some of the modules can still be integrated as one. These include user registration, username and passwords. This way, users can still connect to both Websites regardless of whether the registration is done through desktop or mobile device.

3. Mobile application approach

Mobile application approach uses a more extensive infrastructure for basic distribution and maintenance updates. Apart from this, businesses should also create customized versions of the mobile application for each mobile platform such as Windows Mobile, Android and Symbian on which it will run. This in turn requires individual updates for visitors or users to install and refresh.

This approach is quite more complex to develop and maintain and requires great investment of resources. But in the marketing and publicity aspects of your business, this approach is more advantageous. Through popular Android, Apple and Windows app stores, mobile apps can find an excellent opportunity for the mobile marketplace.

If you can optimize the features of mobile CMS, your business can reap a lot of benefits from it. Just be careful on which of the three approaches you should use. One approach may be effective to one business but not on another.

In choosing which approach to use, you must consider what your needs are and which of the approaches can best satisfy those needs. Choose also the one that is more advantageous to your business and customers.
