We also preferred the convenience of maintain good oral hygiene in the comfort of our homes. If dental hygienists have their armamentarium then we also have some dental products to keep in our homes for better maintenance of the teeth and gums.

Here are some known oral care products to include in our cabinets:

1) Antimicrobial toothpaste and mouthwash – kills a greater percentage of bacteria inside the mouth

2) Tongue spray or gels – minimizes build-up of bacteria and prevents bad breath)

3) Tongue scraper – effective in eliminating bad breath by cleaning the build-up of bacteria, dead cells, and food debris on the tongue

4) Powered toothbrushes and personal oral care devices – ex. rotating brush and ultrasound brush

5) Flouride and remineralization products – ex. protective varnish and sodium fluoride

6) Whitening gels or pastes – ex. carbamide and hydrogen peroxide solutions

7) Disclosing tablets – made up of red vegetable dye that is harmless yet detects tartar, debris, and plaque

These are just some common dental tools and products you can stock at home. Although it is fine to use dental mirrors but using dental explorers need extra precaution as there is a possibility it may get stuck. It is also not advisable to use it often and it is not to be used on exposed root or on decaying tooth without a dentist’s expertise. It is better to leave issues with the teeth and gums to the dentist. What you can do at home is proper maintenance with the use of antimicrobial oral hygiene products. That is why it is recommended to visit the dentist twice a year to monitor the health of your teeth and gums.
