How to Design a Logo that Stands Out From the Crowd

Logos range from the initials of the owners of companies to signs that have historical or some other important thing related to them but it would be very rare in the corporate world for you to see a logo that does not stand for anything. Logos have a very strong presence and they in a sense speak a lot about your organization, its culture, its beliefs and what it stands for.

The three pointed star of Mercedes is famously believed to show the company’s supremacy in building engines that would rule over all three; land, water and air. These are fine and little details that the majority does not know about are the hallmarks of a logo.

It should be kept in mind however that one needs to be very careful when designing a logo. Regular and potential customers pay keen interest to these little details of a company and also form their perceptions about the logo. It is therefore very much advisable for you to design your logo in a way that would appeal to the right person and to that right person; it should convey the right message.

Now when it comes to designing the logo that stands out from the crowd, first you need to employ some creativity and logic to your logo design. What you are after and what this logo will stand for, your beliefs must be conveyed through it and since every business survives on fulfilling some unfulfilled needs of its customers, your logo should be the advocate for it.

There are many sides one can turn to when designing a logo. There can be a retrospective element to it. It can include history or previous accomplishments of a company so that it serves as a constant reminder of success and the values that led to that success. Historical logos for events and communities are something we see very regularly.

Another idea would be to go with your unique strength, things your organization takes pride in and things it stands for, logos of governmental organizations are mostly based on these principles. Their logos depict what they are there for and their values.

Logos can also be the initials of their founder member/s. This site is very common to the hotline industry or other such industries which cater to high end customers. The name itself signifies a lot of things for example the initials of Donald Trump on a building or an airplane speak a lot more than any other thing may.

Finally, one can also turn towards nature when designing logos, the stallion on a Ferrari, the viper on a Dodge Viper and ram head sign on a Dodge pickup truck, the owl on the back of a book are just some examples. These references are meant to show the defining characteristics of a particular product.

Logos need not only be symbols or pictures, they sometimes also incorporate words that have significance, the words “Just do it” written underneath a Nike swoosh is just as familiar as the swoosh itself.

What we can successfully establish from all this is that no matter what your market is, your logo should target accurate and should not fall on the wrong side of anyone because there may be logos out there that may appeal a lot to some of your clientele but they may end up offending a lot of other people.
