Raw food diet, the way towards better health
Raw food diet is a particular kind of a diet which asks its followers to eat uncooked, unprocessed food which is mostly organic in nature, as a majority of their diet. The believers in the concept of raw food diet believe that the health benefits accrued from this diet increase with an increase in the amount of raw food in the diet.
A raw food diet is not short on variety at all. Generally, it contains a great mixture of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, eggs, fish, dairy products and meat. The seeds include sprouted whole grains while the dairy products are non pasteurized as well as non homogenized. Such dairy products are raw milk, raw milk yogurt, and raw milk cheese.
The food stuff included in a raw food diet is primarily unheated. Sometimes, it also includes food which has been heated to a temperature of less than 40 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 46 degrees Celsius.
Many food items in a raw food diet are simple to prepare, such as fruits, salads, meat, and dairy. Other foods can require considerable advanced planning to prepare for eating. Rice and some other grains, for example, require sprouting or overnight soaking to become digestible. Many raw food diet enthusiasts believe it is best to soak nuts and seeds before eating them, to activate their enzymes, and deactivate enzyme inhibitors. The amount of soak time varies for all nuts and seeds.
It is environmentally sound. With humanity on a raw food diet, the food industry would close up shop and take up organic gardening. This would save us enormous amounts of natural resources used to produce power for these industries. Nuclear power would be clearly unnecessary. And think of how many trees and oil reserves could be saved without the need for the paper and plastics used in packaging our processed foods. There would also be less carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere when all the cooking stopped. More oxygen would be produced from all the new orchards and gardens, thus helping to reverse the Greenhouse Effect.
Believers in a raw food diet say that if you consume mainly uncooked foods you will achieve significant desirable weight loss and weight stability – you will not put the weight back on. Also there are many other advantages from this kind of a diet. It gives you much better skin, more energy, weight loss, sustained weight loss, better blood test results – for example, cholesterol and lipid levels.
Of course there are a few cons for a raw food diet too. It requires a lot of organization and motivation as it is hard to keep it up, especially when going out to eat. It also requires a lot of preparation and there may be some digestive problems for a short period of time, but the pros outweigh the cons by a huge margin.
