So You Want Muscles

You may think that muscles are something you can get simply by lifting weights and doing sit-ups, right? Well, you are partly right, but that’s not all you have to do to get your muscles looking the way you’d like. It takes dedication, patience, perseverance, and a lot of hard work. If you aren’t willing to totally immerse yourself in a program designed to build yourself up, then you won’t get anywhere near the results you want. It takes a lot of effort on your part to achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Begin by developing and following a program. Learn how to exercise properly. Follow a diet designed to add bulk. The average person needs discipline and devotion to their training. You are going to have to make sacrifices to get to where you want to be. To build muscle, you have to get stronger. You will need strength training as well as weight lifting, and exercises designed for different body parts. Ask for advice from someone who has done this before.

Begin by adding certain fats, proteins and carbohydrates to your diet, and eat small meals at least 6 times during the day. Certain foods are high in the carbs that will give you energy throughout the day. Eat a lot of brown rice, baked potatoes and oatmeal to maintain your energy level. Don’t forget your vegetables, especially the green ones. Raw is preferable to cooked so that you get all the nutrients contained in them. Snack on the veggies throughout the day to maintain your all important energy level.

Protein is essential. Egg whites, lots of chicken and turkey, cottage cheese and beef are great sources of protein. Supplements containing protein, or protein bars are great as a between meal snack, and serve to give you a little additional boost. Fats are important, and certain fats are also very good for you. Snack on nuts and peanut butter. Cook your foods with olive oil, and take a fish oil supplement. While you may think that you don’t need all of the above, believe me, you do. When you are putting your body through something it is not used to, you will have to take very good care of it if you expect results.

Eating at least 6 times a day is a must. That doesn’t mean to gorge yourself each time, but as long as you are eating 6 or more smaller meals a day, you are giving the body the fuel it needs throughout the day as you exercise and work out. You must take into account the general stature of your body. Your weight, height, the level of activity you have, your lifestyle, and your metabolic make up. Persistence is the key to building your muscles. The harder you work, the more satisfying the results will be.

Remember that you won’t get those huge muscles in the first few weeks of beginning your workout routine. It will take a lot of time and effort on your part to achieve the results you are looking for. As you continue to push yourself, you will find that your muscles will respond to the stress by becoming stronger and more able to take whatever you are doing to make them bigger and better.
