What is Flonase?

Flonase is a type of steroid with Fluticasone as its main ingredient. It is used to treat seasonal as well as year-round allergies, especially nasal symptoms such as stuffy nose, congestion and sneezing. This medication may be used to treat on other health conditions and allergies not listed in the medication guide.

What are the side effects of Flonase?

If you are suffering from any of the side effects mentioned below, call your doctor immediately. At times, you might have some difficult in breathing and swelling on your lips and throat. Call your doctor if you suffer from side effects such as severe nose bleeds, sores in the nose, problems with your vision, chills, flu symptoms, fever, headache, menstrual problem, loss of interest in sex, cough, sneezing, and sinus. Although this is not a complete list of side effects, these are the common ones.

How does Flonase work with other medications?

Well, there is not fixed answer to this. At times, this drug does not work well in combination with other medications, especially anti fungal and HIV treatment medications. Also, tell your doctor if you are suffering from sores in the nose that show no signs of healing, fever, vision problems, chills, and body aches. Ensure that you shake the medication well before each use. It may take a few days before you see any improvement in your symptoms. But ensure that you tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve even after a week of using this medication.

How to store it?

Store Flonase nasal spray at room temperature and keep it away from heat and moisture. Always keep it in an upright position. Throw it away after you have used it for 120 sprays, even if there is some medicine remaining in the Flonase bottle.

What are the precautions that I need to take when using it?

This medication is known to lower the body’s immunity. This makes it difficult for a person to cope with current infections and stay away from new ones. Call your doctor if you are exposed to any type of sickness or infection, especially chickenpox so that the onset of these health conditions can be prevented.

What are the side effects of this drug?

Some of the side effects of this allergy treatment are cataracts, liver problems, herpes of your eyes, tuberculosis, and sores in the nose. This drug is categorized under the pregnancy category C. This means that it is known if this drug harms the fetus. Also, it is not known if it passes in to breast milk. So, you should avoid taking it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is important to use this medication only as prescribed. Taking more of this drug will not help you recover faster. The general dosage of this drug is 1 to 2 sprays in each nostril per day. Shake the bottle well before use. Prime the spray pump if you have not used it for more than 30 days.
