Hemel Hempstead is located in the South Eastern part of England in Hertfordshire. It is about 24 miles away from London. The population of this town is around 89000, and is blessed with oceanic climate similar to the rest of England.

Although Hemel Hempstead got a facelift after the World War II, it had been in existence since the 8th century. King Henry VIII conferred the town charter to it in 1539. There are differing opinions on how this town derived its name.

One of the noted features of this town is its ‘Magic Roundabout’, a central roundabout, where six routes meet. Also, Hemel Hempstead owns the privilege of having the first multi leveled car parking in England. This parking was built at the Marlowes shopping, in the hillside, way back in 1960. The gigantic mosaic area map done by Rowland Emett can bring an instant smile to the face of the travelers passing by.

Hemel Hempstead also boasts of several sculptures by noted artists. The most popular amongst them is a stone mural by Alfred Gerrard dated 1955. This town is also known for its landscaped gardens. The Watergardens on River Gade is quite famous.

This leisure center opened its gates in 1994 and contains 8 screens to entertain you. You will also find 10 pin bowling alley, ice rink, water parks, night clubs and many more. It also has an indoor snow center, where one can enjoy loads of snow sports as well as activities. Skate lovers can visit Gadebridge Park which has an outdoor skates park.

For shopping lovers, this Hemel Hempstead has much on offer. The Marlowes Shopping Area located in the town center, with stores located on both the sides of the street. Most of the street is pedestrian area, so shoppers can shop comfortably. There are ample café and restaurants in this area to tickle your taste buds.

Since Hemel Hempstead enjoys close proximity to London, and is also a part of the UK motorway network, several light and heavy engineering companies are based in this town.  It is also a hub for telecommunications and information technology companies. However, as compared to other well developed towns, the role of Hemel Hempstead remains miniscule.
