Skin rashes: A Baby’s worst nightmare!

Many children are at the risk of baby skin rash due to diet, weather, surroundings or because one or both parents had or have dry skin problems like eczema. At all times a strict skin care regime should be enforced.

When bringing your baby home from hospital for the first time every little bump or red patch can cause alarm. Baby skin rashes are usual for a new born. After all, he or she has unexpectedly been enforced to acclimatize to an atmosphere outside of the womb. Diaper rash, cradle cap and eczema are just some of the skincare problems encountered by newborns. If one suspects that their child has a more complicated skin problem, it is best to see a physician.

Many babies over the world experience infantile eczema or atopic dermatitis. Eczema pictures red skin that won’t stop itching. Eczema is characterized by periods without symptoms, followed by unexplained outbreaks of varying severity. Children who experience infantile eczema are prone to have dehydrated, dry and red skin. They also have a high sensitivity to itching and has been linked to the asthma gene. Most children outgrow their infantile eczema, although a small percentage carry eczema into their teens and adult life.

Babies with infantile eczema build up a tickly red rash, often on their cheeks. This spreads over the face, down the neck to the nappy section. But it may also emerge on the arms and legs. Because of the burning of skin, the child may seem disturbed or bad-tempered – mainly at night. The rash is in general dry, but if the skin is contaminated with bacteria the eczema will become infected. The child should be taken to see a doctor or a dermatologist if this occurs.
