Nokia 2610 Review
The Nokia 2610 is an entry-level phone which is deemed as Nokia’s oldie-but-goodie simple, candy bar phone that is a good change from the design-centric handsets and basic phones which the phone company has been developing for the past few years.
The 2610 is a great phone and a solid option for people who just want a basic and standard phone which allows the person to just make a call without the other unnecessary features of other more handsets. This phone offers decent call quality and service for a very cheap price at $19. This phone is intended for those people who are satisfied with a very easy-to-use phone that has no more than the basic features that a phone needs in order to effectively communicate with other people.
The Nokia 2610’s candy bar design and shape allows it to easily slip into a pocket or bag, and it is very convenient to bring around due to its relatively light weight at 3.21 ounces. The 2610’s design, although it isn’t very flashy and striking with its 1.5-inch display, fits well with this type of phone. Its 65,536 color screen is able to support browsing through some of the 2610’s simple menu, but it is not that conducive for a lot of graphics and games since it makes these visual displays appear a bit dim. The display is also not that visible under direct sunlight and is prone to attract fingerprints or smudges which make this phone a hassle to keep clean.
The 2610’s raised keypad buttons make it easier for its users to dial the buttons since the raised keypad button makes a “push” sensation whenever a button is dialed. This “push” sensation allows its users to navigate through the buttons as they dial without having to look at the buttons themselves.
Included in the keypad buttons is a large and well designed navigation five-way toggle just below the 1.5-inch display. The navigation key which is also raised above the surface just like the other buttons on the phone is easy to use and is very tactile due to its size. The size of the five-way toggle is big enough to accommodate people with big fingers together with other buttons which include two soft keys and the dedicated Talk and End controls.
However, though the sizes of the buttons are big enough for most of its users, the numbers on the keys are not. The numbers on the phone are sometimes difficult to read for most of its users but are made easier by the well lit backlight of the phone, making dialing in dim situations more of a possibility. All these features and style is housed in a seemingly cheap-looking casing with some areas having a slight rubberized texture.
The phone has some of the most basic features such as polyphonic ringtones, contact phone book, text and multimedia messaging together with an alarm clock, vibrate mode, stopwatch plus timer, calculator, notepad, a to-do list, and a calendar. Some of its more advanced features allow its users to personalize screen savers and color themes together with ringtones. It also has a voice recorder, a speakerphone, a unit converter and an expense manager.
