What to Expect From a Professional Carpet Cleaning Service
If you are preparing to hire professional Long Island carpet cleaners in your home there are several things you want to have in place before you sign a contract and do to ensure your Long Island carpet cleaning professionals are reputable and reliable.
Here are a few things you can do to better your chances of hiring a solid carpet cleaning service, even if you’ve never hired one before. Remember: honesty is one thing; being reliable, on time and experienced are completely different matters.
Here are some key questions you can ask to better the odds of having a pleasant experience:
1. Ask how long the company has been in business and if they’ve been under the same management for that period of time. New companies are not necessarily better than companies that have been around for decades, however, you don’t want inexperienced workers practicing on your carpets, right?
2. Ask if the individual who is going to be cleaning your carpets has been certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification or other similar training organization. The IICRC is a highly respected, non profit organization that certifies cleaning technicians. If they say they are certified, ask them to show you their card.
3. As what kind of training your carpet cleaning professionals have under their belt.
4. Ask if the company will provide you with free onsite estimates BEFORE you agree to let them do the work. Never agree to over-the-phone estimates unless you are dealing with a company you have used in the past. Any reputable firm will be happy to come out and perform a free estimate for you in your home, which should include, at minimum, measurement of the size of the rooms and a full examination of the carpet for clean-ability. They should also run test spots and give you a report about the expectations for how clean they will be able to get your carpets and what stains may not be cleanable.
5. Request an itemized copy of the fees charged and explanations for any that are not obvious. Carpet Cleaning companies use many different ways of arriving at an equitable cost for cleaning your carpets.
Remember: not all professional carpet cleaning companies in Log Island will charge by the square foot. Many professional carpet cleaning companies charge by the number of rooms you have to be cleaned. There is no one correct way, however, in residential homes with average furnishings that must be moved and average soiling, the square footage price could justifiably run up to 35 cents per square foot and should include the following:
· Pre-inspection of all areas to be cleaned
· Pre-vacuum all carpet to be cleaned
Removal of furniture
· Pre-treatment of the traffic areas with cleaning products that are designed to loosen oils that are binding the soil to the fibers
· Cleaning and careful replacement of your furniture to its original location, putting protective foil squares or plastic to prevent staining by furniture legs
· Clean all open areas
· Treat all spots that haven’t been removed in the normal extraction process and re-extract
· Groom or brush the carpet to set the pile on end
· Final walk through with the customer to ensure satisfaction with job
In general, pricing for carpet cleaning usually does not include deodorizing carpet or application of carpet protectors such as Scotchgard®.
