Sounds wonderful – as good as perpetual motion or turning rocks into gold or having a money tree. Even just no electric bill would be nice, not to mention all the rest. Forget solar and wind power, which are more complicated than a generator. Unless you invent one that works with a hand crank, it sounds like a winner on all levels.
Anyway, there’s probably a catch, 22 or even higher. Perhaps the electricity causes a severe skin rash; you trade financial stress for intense itching. Or there is some toxic waste involved, like a battery for a hybrid vehicle. You don’t have to pay for electricity but you have to bribe Nebraska to secretly bury it in one of their trackless wastes, unknown to the citizenry.
Pretty cool. Even if all you could do is use the electricity yourself it would be neat. Perhaps there is some obscure reason to let everyone else pay for electricity and remain dependent on the Grid. It’s hard to think of one, though. The generator obviously would run on something free, like air, so it should be pollution-free. Drawbacks are hard to imagine – noise can be muffled and it does not take a huge unit to generate electricity. People would have enough electricity to share it if they wanted – or sell it at a discounted rate, so many would benefit.
Maybe you realize that the generator runs on air or water – you have a well so the water would be free after you hooked your pump up to your generator – but destroys the air or the water. Water is a limited commodity and maybe air is also, so you nobly realize that the secret must never, never get out or life as we know it will be destroyed.
Say you did go ahead and profit from your invention, beyond getting rid of your electric bill. If you could handle being filthy rich, you probably already would have won the Power Ball lottery. All your indigent friends and shirt tail relations would come crash at your mansion, turning on all the lights, watching videos in your home theater, swimming in your heated pool, and eating order-in pizza at all hours.
But then, you could buy all of them their own all-electric crash pad and install high fences around yours with free security cameras every ten feet. You could hire a social secretary to screen your visitors, only allowing in those you really wanted to see. Of course, they might be all glued to their flat screen TVs and too occupied to come visit their benefactor.
