LEGO History

The Lego Group commenced in the workshop associated with Ole Kirk Christiansen (7 April 1891 – 11 March 1958), a wood worker from Billund, Denmark, who started out making wooden gadgets in 1932. In 1934, his company came to be named lego 4440, from the Danish phrase calf godt, which means “play-well”. It enhanced to producing plastic-type toys in The late 1940s. In 1949 Lego started producing the right now famous interlocking brick, calling them “Automatic Binding Bricks”. These bricks were dependent largely on the clair of Kiddicraft Self-Locking Bricks, which were released in the United Kingdom throughout 1947.

LEGO modified the style of the Kiddicraft brick right after examining a sample given to it by the English supplier of an injection-molding unit that the company got purchased. The bricks, originally manufactured from cellulose acetate, ended up a development of traditional stackable wooden blocks of which locked together by means of several round studs on top and a hollow rectangular bottom. The actual blocks snapped jointly, but not so closely that they required extraordinary effort to be separated. The Lego Group’s slogan is det bedste er ikke pertaining to godt which means roughly ‘only the top is good enough’ (more actually ‘the best is never as well good’). This motto came to be by Ole Kirk to stimulate his employees not to skimp on top quality, a value he believed in strongly. The mantra is still used in the catering company today.
By 1954, Christiansen’s daughter Godtfred Kirk Christiansen had become the junior md of the Lego Group. That it was his conversation with the overseas buyer that will struck the idea of some sort of toy system. Godtfred saw the immense probable in Lego bricks becoming a system for creative play but the brick still had many problems from a technological standpoint: their locking ability was minimal and they were not really versatile. Since 1963, Lego City 4440 Forest Police Station set pieces have been created from a strong, resilient plastic-type material known as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). As of September 2008, this engineers use the NX CAD/CAM/CAE PLM application suite to model the elements. The software enables the parts to be run optimization procedures by way of mold move and stress investigation. Prototype molds are now and again built before the design is committed to bulk production. The Abs plastic, fiberglass is heated to 232 °C (450 °F) until with a dough-like consistency. It is then injected into the molds with pressures between 25 and 150 a lot, and takes approximately 15 seconds to cool. This molds are acceptable a tolerance all the way to two micrometers, to ensure the bricks remain connected. Human inspectors check the creation of the molds, to eliminate significant variations in color or thickness. In line with the Lego Group, about 20 bricks out of every trillion fail to meet the typical required. Lego factories sell all but about 1 % of their plastic squander from the manufacturing method every year. If the plastic cannot be re-used in Lego brick, it is processed as well as sold on to market sectors that can make use of it.
