Steps to a Perfect Wedding Cake

Each and every couple would like their wedding to be perfect. It is a celebration of their love and partnership, so they want everything to go right on this day. The couple, particularly the bride, pays attention even to the tiniest details. At much as possible, there is no room left for error, and everything is done to make sure that all the aspects of the wedding are taken care of.

One element of the wedding that surely cannot be forgotten is the wedding cake. The cake is a big part of the celebration, and many people look forward not only to eating but also to looking at its design. Here are some important steps to take care of to make sure that there will be a perfect cake on the day of the wedding.

1. Consider the budget.

The first thing that must be thought about is the amount of money that is allotted for the wedding cake. This is an important detail because weddings tend to be expensive, and there is usually a limit to what should be spent for each particular aspect of a wedding.

2. Look for a bakeshop or a baker that can do the job.

There are so many bakeshops, but not all of them are up to the challenge of making a wedding cake, particularly a custom-made one. It is preferable to choose a bakeshop that has previous experience in doing this sort of thing. This way, there will be less risk of them messing up the order or coming up with a cake that is different from what is expected.

3. Ask about the time frame.

Wedding cakes generally take longer to make than other cakes. The design in particular is intricate, and it may take a lot of time to do. Ask the bakeshop to give an estimate about how long it would take for them to create the wedding cake. This way, you will have an idea about when to place the order so that the cake will be made just in time for the wedding.

4. Try out samples.

There are so many possibilities regarding the flavor of the wedding cake. The best way to select the best one is to taste them. Many bakeshops, particularly those who specialize in making these wedding cakes, offer free tastings to potential customers.

5. Come up with a flavor and design.

Now that the tasting is done, it is time to choose a flavor for the cake. Aside from the flavor, the appearance and design of the cake has to be determined as well. Traditionally, the wedding cake is multi-tiered and is covered with white icing. However, the couple is free to deviate from the norm and choose whatever style they would like.

6. Inform the baker about the wedding venue and other such details.

The baker should now get details such as the venue of the wedding. This way, he/she can give advice regarding how the cake will be stored and transported.

7. Think about where to place the cake.

During the ceremony, the cake should be placed in a location where it is protected from the heat of the sun or from flies. Also, it should be put out of the way of the guests so that it will not fall.

If you aren’t an experienced baker but you are willing to learn I suggest you to start from a simple sponge cake (in Swedish the term is sockerkaka) because it can be used as a base for cakes for all different kinds of occasions.  See how to decorate different cakes here.
