Types of insurance in Denmark

For many Danes, the easiest way to purchase insurance in Denmark is to buy all types of insurance policies from the same insurance company. In other words, many Danes believe that it is much more convenient to buy their insurance policies from some particular company and not from a number of different insurance providers. The only reason for Danes to purchase their insurance policies from different providers is that this or that insurance company does not offer all types of insurance products and services. The cost of an insurance policy can be another good reason to turn to another provider.

The truth is that for many consumers, and not only for Danes, the cost and the quality are the two main factors affecting their decision to choose the services and products of this or that company. This is why the largest insurance companies usually offer the most comprehensive services and the most affordable prices. At the same time, the only way to choose the best insurance company is to decide which services in particular you are willing to get. Generally, there are three types of insurance in Denmark. These types are known as accident insurance (or ulykkeforsikring as we say in Danish), family insurance, and car insurance.

Family insurance in Denmark is usually subcategorized into house insurance, fire insurance, homeowner insurance, and combined house insurance. For all the homeowners who borrow a mortgage loan to purchase their real estate property, house insurance is obligatory, and it means that you will not be able to get a loan without house insurance. Hence, your home must be fire insured. It also must be protected against water or storm damages. The combination insurance can include any sorts of damages to your property, as well as a third party liability. For example, if a pedestrian gets into an accident near your home, his or her claims will be covered with the combination insurance.

The best thing about insurance in Denmark is that you can literally insure anything. If you want to insure the cables or pipes in your house, there is a special insurance policy that will cover any damages caused by heating or leaking. If you are willing to insure your clothes and furniture, you can buy an insurance policy that will cover your belongings in case of vandalism, fire, traffic accident, or anything else. And the best news is that all your family members are covered with family insurance. You, your spouse, your children, and even your pets are covered with such insurance policy.

Many Danes prefer to protect their auto vehicles with combined car insurance policies. Still, there is more than just one type of car insurance policies in Denmark. For instance, liability insurance or third party insurance is obligatory in Denmark. Such insurance is the only way to make sure you will be able to compensate damage or loss caused to a third party on your fault. The only thing to note here is that the driver is not covered with liability car insurance, and this is why you may want to purchase additional insurance that will cover loss or damage caused to your own car.
