Google Analytics: The Silent Mole

It is slowly becoming apparent that Google is not as great as they make themselves out to be. They claim to be a webmaster’s friend but continually prove they cannot be trusted. What they are really good at is pulling the wool over the eyes of their unsuspecting victims and hoping that no one will discover what they are really up to. This shady business model seems to be working well for them. Google continues to rake in the profits while they punish the innocent site owners for not being able to predict the moodiness of their algorithm’s requirements.

The role of Google as friend has been played well, but is an act nonetheless. For example, Google offers free website monitoring tools, Google analytics, which is supposed to help webmasters obtain valuable information about the performance of their sites so that they can try to improve them. It is a shame that more people are not in tune with what Google’s motives really are in offering these so-called ‘free’ services. The fact is that the company has much to gain by all their giveaways.

It is not just the webmaster that gets valuable information about their sites thanks to Google analytics, Google does as well. While the webmaster may think that the tools they receive are really great, they do not realize how much of their business is being sold out from under them, right under their very noses. Thanks to the code webmasters install to their sites for the sake of using these free webmaster tools from Google, all the internal mechanics of their business operations can be learned and watched by Google. No longer is there is such a thing as a trade secret.

Not only does Google analytics report statistics, facts, and figures about websites to their owners, but Google is able to gain critical data about every company whose website uses these tools, such as what sells, what does not sell, the rate of business growth, order frequency, order amounts, and so on. These are all bits of information that no company wants their competitor to have, but nosy old Google gets to be in everyone’s business.

Why would Google want to do such a thing? Remember that Google is not just in the business of bring a search engine alone. Its greatest revenue is from advertisement, which brings the company billions of dollars every year. On top of that there is Google shopping, and a whole host of other ways for the internet giant to profit off this inside information. It is for this reason that Google has now been compared to Microsoft at its best. This is because Microsoft seemed to be in just about every business, as is Google now. Just make sure you learn to keep them out of your business.  There are plenty of other free webmaster tools you could use without resorting to the ‘G’ of the internet.  Of a truth, Google is no webmaster’s best friend.
