EPEAT certified computers are ranked depending on the capabilities of power management, the amount of harmful materials it contains, the amount of recyclable materials used and when the computer is out of order how quickly and easily the unit can be disassembled.

Ensure that your computers possess useable word processing software and that it can browse the Internet. You can easily donate it to some charitable organization instead of disposing it insensibly.

Unplug your computer when it is not in use. Power consumed even when the computer is turned off is up to 10 percent of your electric bill.
