Men can have Candidiasis Too – Do You Know?

Yeast infection usually occurs in women. But what most men don’t know is that this disease also occurs in men. This is because men and women alike have the fungi Candida in the body. Even healthy people have Candida as this fungi loves to live in moist and exposed parts of the body.

But this fungus is not really a problem for the body. Even if you have it, it doesn’t mean that you have Candidiasis. Candidiasis only happens when there is overgrowth of Candida and causes physical pain to the body. Thus, the overgrowth of Candida in the penile area of men results to Candidiasis.

But how do men get Candidiasis? This is the most embarrassing and painful infection that any man can get. And this is usually due to factors that promote the growth of the Candida yeast. One factor that causes penile yeast infection is low immunity.

Due to nutrient deficiency, men’s immunity is lowered. Stress can also lower immunity as well as other factors like low white blood cell count, transplant surgery, low stomach acidity, HIV/AIDS, and cancer. And when a man’s immunity is compromised, this allows Candida to grow and flourish in the body leading to Candidiasis.

Bad diet can also cause penile yeast infection. This is because bad diet causes an imbalanced in the number of good bacteria in the body thereby promoting the growth of Candida in the body leading to Candidiasis.

Antibiotics can also cause yeast infection as this also kills the bacteria in the body: both good and bad bacteria. And sadly, good bacteria block the growth of Candida and without them, Candida would be free to grow and multiply leading to penile yeast infection.

Another factor that promotes the growth of Candida is diabetes. This is because sugar in the urine helps promote the growth of Candida. And this disease also lowers the immune system promoting Candida overgrowth.

Condoms can also cause penile yeast infection if it contains the chemical nonoxynol-9. This is a chemical that kills sperm but also kills good bacteria that blocks the growth of Candida. Thus, men should be cautious with what type of condom that they use. To prevent Candidiasis, it would be better if they use condom without nonoxynol-9.

Men should also be cautious with people that they have sex with as sexual intercourse can also cause penile yeast infection. Sexual intercourse is even considered as the most common cause of penile yeast infection. So to make sure that you don’t get Candidiasis, you have to practice safe sex but using condom that does not contain the chemical nonoxynol-9. Also a proper balanced diet will help block the growth of Candida in the body thereby preventing Candidiasis.
