IGNOU to launch diploma in Child Rights
The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU’s) School of Law (SOL) in collaboration with PRAYAS will soon launch a Diploma course in Child Rights, Child Protection and Juvenile Justice, announced Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU.
“The future course is designed to create career opportunities and to provide specialized training, understanding and dealing with current issues and juvenile justice and child protection in the country. It would also be helpful for professionals already working in the child’s questions about to develop the necessary skills, and identify appropriate resources and management plans are available in the community, “he said.

Diploma in child rights, child protection and juvenile justice would be a year part time course in which 8 (7 theoretical practice) will be taught. The practical course will cover in houses of observation, the child protection committees and NGOs.

The course aims to enable students to gain an understanding of the fundamental nature of the problems and issues related to child protection and youth justice, building capacity and commitment to the prevention, the timely action and responsibility to promote healthy childhood, develop synergy between theory and practice on issues relating to child protection and youth justice.
The program also prepares the staff to handle different tasks effectively enforced the law for young people to improve their skills and knowledge needed to create and promote a great social awareness and the defense allows professional legal work, administrative and social search new law in response to emerging needs of society and improve the institutional infrastructure for the implementation of outpatient services for children.
The course is of interest to any NGO staff (at least one graduate) working in different areas of child welfare, officers of police, lawyers, judges, counselors, probation officers, supervisors / deputy superintendents of observation homes / detention and other institutions that provide services for children.

Although the course is open to all follow-up, but instead, the student should be MA Social Work / Psychology / Sociology from a recognized university or a PG Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology, or professionals who have experience of at least two years of working with law enforcement agency.
For using the training offered through this course, students will be eligible to occupy important positions of responsibility in various governmental and nongovernmental organizations defending children’s rights and protection, stop child trafficking or treat missing children.
This course can serve as an opportunity to gain valuable experience and job opportunities available as “agents of protection of children” in the plan for the protection of children included in the 11 th Five Year Plan (2007-12) in the research, university management, administration, NGOs and development agencies.
