Police investigate murders in Langley, Surrey

A man in his 20s gunned down in Surrey early Tuesday morning is the fourth fatal shooting victim in the Metro Vancouver area since Christmas Eve.

Surrey RCMP were called out to a shooting in the 9500-block of 125th Street after a caller said they heard several shots about 7:30 a.m. sacoche louis vuitton and looked outside at 8:30 to see a person lying on the ground.

RCMP said they found a dead Caucasian man who is in his mid-20s.

This is the latest in a spate of shootings throughout Metro Vancouver over the weekend.

On Monday night, a man was killed in his driveway in Langley in what appeared to be a targeted, execution-style shooting.

Gunfire erupted last night at around 9 p.m., in the 9100-block of 207 Street in the Walnut Grove area. When police and paramedics arrived, they found an unresponsive 38-year-old man bleeding and slumped outside the driver side of his Mercedes SUV, which had several bullet holes through the driver side window.

He was pronounced dead in his driveway, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokeswoman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, in a release.

The officer said IHIT is working with Langley RCMP, forensic specialists, and a dog unit as they canvass the area and try to piece together what happened.

“As we are in the preliminary stages of this investigation the details are limited,” Pound said. “We are attempting to gather evidence with the intention of leading investigators to the person responsible for this homicide.”

This deadly shooting is the third in as many days across Metro Vancouver.

Alok Gupta, 27, was shot in an apparent robbery on Christmas Day at around 4 p.m. while he worked at Ken’s Grocery in the 11000-block of 96th Avenue in North Delta.

Gupta sought help at a nearby residence and was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

“Although it appears that the victim died from a gunshot wound, the cause of death will ultimately be confirmed through an autopsy,” Pound said yesterday.

“The victim … was working Christmas Day as a good deed to the owners who wished to celebrate Christmas together,” Pound said.

“It’s beyond a tragedy when a good deed turns into the loss of someone’s life.”

Also killed on the weekend was 28-year-old Bradley McPherson from Surrey, who was shot during a rowdy house party at a residence in the 13100-block of 67A Avenue in Surrey at around 3 a.m.

Neighbours said the residents of that house and just moved in recently and had spent each night hosting raucous parties.

The night of the shooting about 20 people fled from the house and into their cars about 3:11 a.m.

“They just came out really, really fast,” said April Jackman, who, with her husband Brian, was trying to sleep just metres away from where the party was held. “They went out the back, out the front. They were all over the place and jumping into cars.

“They had alcohol bottles in their hands.”

The rash of shootings comes on the heels of a report by the Vancouver-area Gang Task Force, which said guns are getting seized in 2011 at a rate three times that of 2010.

The 174 guns seized by the specialized anti-gang unit this year are in addition to another 11 taken by officers within other units of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit for a total of 185.

Last year, the Gang Task Force seized 63 firearms.
