Job stress is a part and parcel of life. We are all a victim but what matters is management. Stress becomes an issue only when matters go out of hand. If you are able to deal with it, then it is all too good. On the other hand, if you let things reach an extreme stage, then you are in for trouble. People always feel lost and troubled when met by a stressor. If you learn to take things in stride and approach life with a positive outlook instead of magnifying the issue at hand, then you play the cards right!

With responsibilities, comes headache. You might occupy a golden throne in corporate world or work for daily wages. Stress doesn’t come looking hierarchy! There are responsibilities entailing every job and you need to satisfy it to lead a content life. Sometimes, people might force unrealistic expectations on you. You should be assertive enough to take your stands and communicate your position. Here are a few stress management guidelines that you might want to look into:

Self-introspection:

Know when you are stressed. You should be able to read warning signs such as anxiety, fatigue, apathy and other bodily responses. There is no point in living with denial. You will have to accept that you are seriously stressed out because there is no other way out!

  • Identify the stressor. Without knowing what is actually causing you the stress, how can you ever take measures to curb it? When the cause is spotted, the effect is easy to root!
  • Take a reality check on both the external and the internal causes.
  • External causes can be anything from lighting, uncomfortable seating, noisy working conditions, cluttered table, unorganized folders and what not.
  • Internal causes can be job dissatisfaction, meeting expectations, achieving targets and deadlines and various other factors that disturb your internal balance.

Eating habits:

  • Alcohol, caffeine, high sodium constituents and sugar intake are known to be bad pals when you are having stress for a company.
  • Get rid of all the chips, aerated or carbonate drinks and junk food. You cannot do a more worse thing to your health at this moment!
  • Drink lots of water. A clear and refreshing drink of water time and again can help you cleanse your body and power your brain.
  • If you are addicted to a morning dose of coffee, then replace it with your favorite flavor of fresh juice or some other health drink. I know it sounds boring and it is hard to quit to a petted habit. But fact is you are just inviting more harm with a cup of coffee as it does nothing but mess up with your body, contrary to your doting belief!
  • Food items low in oil composition, fresh fruits and salads can actually help your body function twice as effectively as it was before you were stressed.

Fit is the word:

May be this is not something you like to hear: But nothing like a good dosage of yoga early in the morning. It will help you stay in focus and give you the stamina and energy to combat the stressors that are awaiting your lane.

  • Yoga demands the supervision of an expert. You cannot perform it all by yourself with tips from online or any other source. A wrong pose or a careless stint can put you in a worse condition than you thought was possible. Direct interaction with a trainer is absolutely a must!
  • Try to go for an early walk. The fresh air will definitely help you clear your head and prepare for the day.
  • Sweating out is one of the best solutions that I can provide you. The exercise regimes differ from person to person and gender to gender. An hour or two of solid work out on a daily basis will actually boost your confidence level and will power.
  • You can actually incorporate exercises in your daily routine. For example, bringing your legs to your chest a couple of times when you lie down will help you maintain a good body rhythm.

Planning and organizing:

Organize your work. Nothing can turn you off like a scattered work place. May be you do not mind all the clutter and the mess. The indirect ill effect it has on your work is just an obvious fact. So, get your work organized today.

  • Plan your day’s work. If you have a well laid out plan, things might not seem as tough as it is for the moment.
  • Nothing can give you a headache like a desktop full of folders strewn almost everywhere in clicking space. Your immediate job is to send the unwanted folders to bin and stack the rest according to your requirements.
  • One of the important blunders most of us do is to postponing our work. Just get it over with buddy! You will be able to breathe a sigh of relief once you are done with your commitments for the day. Keep adding tasks to your already choking schedule will only turn you nuts!
  • Discipline yourself to be a thorough worker. If you are lagging in your work or unable to meet the deadlines, it is because of lack of time management. Time your work well and the rest will fall in place.

Psychological X factor:

Try to avoid situations or encounters that can provoke your stress levels. For example, watching a very painful film, a heated conversation with your not so friendly cabin mate etc is a sure to avoid instances when your stress hormone levels are already sky rocketing.

  • If you feel you need a shoulder to lean on, then go to that one soul who is always willing to hear all that you have to prattle. You do not have to prove that you are a man by trying to manage everything all alone. A warm companion and a soothing drink is all that you need now!
  • If you want to cry, what is stopping you from doing so? There is no relief possible unless you vent it all out. There is no point in caging them all in. In my opinion, nothing gives a more therapeutic cure than a good hour of salty downpour!
  • You should also do some good amount of self taking. If you think that sounds like mental stuff, then you do not know what you are talking! Self introspection can get you all the answers to get you relieved from the job stress that is ruining your life.
  • People often forget to even laugh and smile when they are stressed. Haven’t you heard of this famous saying ‘laughter is the best medicine?’ It is the best and the most powerful known anecdote to stress!

A good night’s sleep:

Work when you have to work and sleep when you have to. If you do not give yourself adequate sleep time, then things are not going to turn out fine until you do and optimum functioning is a complete quiz.

  • When suffering from insomnia, it is not advisable to seek relief from sleeping tables, as there is always an issue of side effects. You might appear groggy or light headed the next day. Remember, natural remedy is the best!
  • If your bed lamp lighting is bright, then no wonder, you are not getting enough sleep! Night time lighting is supposed to be mild and pleasant and soothing to the senses.
  • Cool room temperature is one important aspect that should be looked into. With a cool climate, fluffy bed and thick quilt, you are already in heaven!
  • You should be mindful of your eating habits before your bed time. Scheduling your dinner four hours before bed time is sensible to give your tummy enough digestion time. Also, avoid oily, spicy items before you go to bed and do not give any thought to caffeine and alcohol before sleep. All it does is spoil your quality sleeping!

Relaxation techniques:

Engage in activities that will refresh and energize you while you start for the day. Hearing soothing music can calm your nerves and help you relax before your day’s schedule begins.

  • Take regular breaks. If you are going to work steadily for extended length of hours without any break, then you are just helping yourself to get more stressed. Some 5 to 10 min breaks at regular intervals are a welcome sign for your body.
  • If your job title, compels you to sit in front of a PC from the moment you login, then stretch out your legs, circle your eyes muscles, smoothen the muscles in the back of your neck and spine as often as you can. Otherwise you will end up feeling all stiff and beaten at the end of the day.
  • One of the most resorted relaxation techniques is deep breathing. All you have to do is sit in a comfortable posture and start to inhale and exhale deeply a couple of time. This will help to detoxify your blood and let your brain get a pure and fresh supply of oxygen.
  • Tune away from the current stressor and fantasize yourself in a vacation spot or anywhere that you long to be at the moment. Make your fantasy as realistic as possible to get the most out of your self-relaxation therapy.

Am sure if you incorporate all these factors in your daily routine, you will be able to fight your stressor more effectively than you thought was possible. If you want to get relieved from your stressor, then don’t run away from it! Face the truth and take the right measures. There is no point in breaking down for a mere stressor.
