Chiropractic Treatment Gives Amazing Relief from Sciatica Pain

About six months back, I met a friend who was complaining about severe numbness and excruciating pain from his hip right down to his foot of his right leg. This friend, suffering from sciatica, found it very difficult to walk and even sleep. A number of visits to the orthopedic, which included x-rays, medication and money, for the past three months, had not given him any relief. He looked so dull and depressed. I met him again last month and he looked hale and healthy and very happy. When enquiring about his leg pain, he said that he has completely recovered from pain and numbness after he met a chiropractor and underwent chiropractic treatment. Many people are still not aware about chiropractic treatment and its effectiveness in treating sciatica.

Before discussing about what exactly is sciatica, how many of you know exactly what is chiropractic? Chiropractic is an alternative health care for treating pain without drugs and surgery. The main focus is on the relationship between the spine and functions of the nerves. Chiropractic is derived from the Greek words ‘cheir’ which means hands and ‘praxix’ which means practice. Thus chiropractic treatment is a treatment by hands, and a chiropractor more than treating the pain, treats the root cause of the pain by a hands-on process known as spinal manipulation or spinal adjustment.

Now let’s see what sciatica is and why chiropractic is recommended for sciatica? The sciatica nerve which is the longest nerve in the human body runs from the lower spine down each leg and any irritation or compression to this nerve causes a symptom known as sciatica which causes pain from the back, through the thighs to the foot. The main cause of sciatica is herniated disc. The exact cause of sciatica can be found through an MRI scan.

Though icing the affected area, non-steroid drugs and exercises are treatments for sciatica, depending on the severity of the sciatica, the best option for immediate relief, is to approach a chiropractor, as spinal management is the best remedy, according to experts. The chiropractor finds the root cause of the problem and eradicates it through spinal manipulation. This will reduce the irritation in the sciatica nerve, reducing the pain. Some chiropractors might include stretching exercises to strengthen the spine.  Another treatment by the chiropractors for sciatica is ultrasound, where heat is passed through the body. Other types of chiropractic sciatica treatments include ice therapy and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) a method by which a light electrical current is send to the nerve, which increases the endorphins produced by the body, thus relieving pain. The spinal adjustment reduces the compression on the sciatica nerve and corrects the spinal misalignment.

In a clinical study, researchers have cave come to the conclusion that spinal manipulation has proved to be very effective, in cases where traditional, medical management has failed, and chiropractic has proved equally beneficial as surgery to treat sciatica. This proves why chiropractic is the best solution for sciatica and the best remedy to put the patient back on his feet as early as possible.
