Do you have a bug out bag???

Imagine, no food, clean water, electricity or working city municipalities?
Wait, bug out but out bag? What is that? Do you have an emergency bag in your car or home? Something you can strap on your back and head out to the hills with? What if you were traveling and could not get back near your home? Did not have anything with you and a disaster struck of some sort. Even a car wreck on the side of the road at night could leave you in a really rough situation.
So, inside the bag are things that will be small enough to fit into a backpack. This depends on where you live and what might be able to use to survive in the area and season that you are dealing with. For me, I live in Colorado. So when the sun goes down it gets cold.
So first off, for me I am going to make sure I am going to be able to stay dry and warm.
1. Some gloves, socks, underwear, thermal wear, beany hat, billed or waterproof bucket hat, waterproof warm shell jacket with hood and waterproof pants. I would probably also pack in a pair of sandals as they are small and easy to pack.
2. You might need some time to sleep outside. Today there are some pretty light weight tents that provide room to 2-3 people if need be. One that has a rain fly is super important in the event that you run into weather which could be a big possibility.
3. Depending on the season you might want to consider a sleeping bag or blanket. For me, I’ve slept on the ground and it’s no fun while your freezing. If not a sleeping bag then at least the emergency aluminum blankets that fold up to almost nothing but are very easy to transport.
4. You might not have a way to get food so some easy things are a good idea like beef jerkey and power bars. Trail mix or cliff bars, raisins and dried fruit.
5. Water purification is going to be important if you spend any time where you won’t have water. There are now small purification units that are small and work with gravity that could be used and purification tablets are. Bringing a few bottles of water not only can be used immediately but can be used to collect water to purify for later.
6. An LED headlamp flashlight that can last for several hours and 2 extra sets of batteries. A hand crank charger that has a flashlight and an am/fm/uhf radio. On this same line of thinking is having several snap glow sticks.
7. A small solar charger that can charge the batteries for the LED flashlight and that also has an attachment that I can connect to charge my phone.
8. It’s going to get cold so you are going to need a way to start a fire. A flint and a steel and steel or a magnesium strip. As well as a zippo lighter with extra flints packed into the bottom of the zippo cottons and extra can of fuel. If you have room in your pack you might be able to bring a small stove and fuel. A small cooking pan with a dollar store pack of salt and pepper.
9. You are going to need a knife so a good multi-tool can save some space and should have a can opener.
10. A Compass.
11. Small whistles and a small mirror. In the event that you need to call out to someone or signal
12. Bug repellant.
13. Retractable fishing pole with lures and line.
14. A tarp with some rope and twine or paracord. I like bungee’s too if you have the room for it. A shelter with a little room to spare can go a long way when the weather is rough.
15. A first aid kit with basic needs and an ace bandage in the case of a sprain. Anti-diarrhea medication. Digestive enzymes in the case of eating unfamiliar things.
16. Survival handbook to have all the knowledge right there in your hand.
17. A small shovel and axe.
18. Ponchos you could give away if you have space.
19. Map of the surrounding area you are in perhaps a 1 or 2 states surrounding you.
20. Sunblock in a ziplock bag, in side several other unused ziplock bags with rubber gloves.
21. Deck of cards and pair of dice to fight the boredom.
22. Cash and coins. You may want to keep small bills and coins so you can make change or hit vending machines.
23. Anything you have of value that you think might be worth trading in the future.
24. A method of protection. Weather it is a big knife or a firearm you might need something to keep you and your crew safe.
25. The almight Duct or Duck tape.
26. If you have any space left bring your supplement that work for you. For me it will be Protandim.

Well, hopefully you will not need this sort of thing within your lifetime but if you did, would you be ready. Could you help someone if they needed it? I hope I don’t need one but I’m getting a bag ready.
