In general the pregnancy in humans is divided into trimesters of 13 weeks each. The overall span of pregnancy is around 40 months. Most of the time, 1 week pregnant women do not feel any changes as this is the period of ovulation and fertilization.

The mothers are suggested to adopt healthy lifestyles after being 1 week pregnant. They are asked to take prenatal vitamins and supplements that are required for a healthy lifestyle. They shall also give up drinking or smoking and too much consumption of caffeine.

The 6 weeks pregnant women begin to actually feel that they are carrying their small one inside their belly. The baby’s size is very small; half the size of a pea but this period involves a number of important changes. The most important development in the baby is that the arms and the legs begin to get pronounced for the first time. The outlines of the eyes would also be visible for the first time. The baby’s heartbeats are also noticeable by the doctor. The heart beats of the bay in a 6 weeks pregnant mother is double that of an adult, about 100 to 150 beats a minute.

Another extremely important change during this period is the development of the nervous system. During this period, if the baby is touched, he or she would be able to respond to the touch in some way.

The excitement of the little kicks also begins to develop during this period as the baby’s reflexes are combined for the first time by the brain and the bodily developments. The mothers will also begin to feel more exhausted and sick during this period. Morning sickness is one of the most common features.

During this period, the mothers should always stay in close consultation of the doctors as the baby grows a lot of hormonal changes take place in the mother and therefore there are severe ups and downs in the health of the mother.
