Men’s Platinum Wedding Bands

The main focus on the day of a wedding is traditionally the bride. This is because everyone is looking at her dress, hair, make-up and most importantly the wedding ring that will be proudly displayed to friends and family during and after the ceremony is over. Nowadays grooms are being pushed to share the spotlight with their brides and this means that wedding rings for men are becoming a bigger and more important part of a wedding.

The trend of men wearing platinum weddings bands is a fairly recent one. Before 1940 the Office of Historical Statistics recorded that only 15% of men chose to wear a wedding ring. Most men considered wearing a wedding band to be effeminate and impractical and something that should only be worn by ladies. When the Second World War started more and more men started to wear a wedding ring as it became a reminder of loved ones and a symbol of their love and commitment to each other, even though they had been separated by war and distance. Then in the 1950’s the Korean War started and this saw an increase of men wearing wedding rings, with around 10% wearing wedding bands as a reminder of the marriage vows.

Currently approximately 80% to 90% wear wedding rings and are continuing to wear them as part of their daily dress. This has made it even more important for them to ensure that the process of choosing a wedding band for a groom is given as much consideration as the process for a bride.  Wedding bands for men are generally a more simple design than those for women. They are plainer and do not generally have adornments like engravings and gemstones. They are also thicker and heavier than wedding rings for females.

If you are looking at the practicality of wedding rings then platinum is definitely the most durable of the metals used to make wedding bands. Platinum wedding bands do not scratch or tarnish as easily as other precious metals such as gold or silver. For those men that want to indulge in a bit of glamour just like their bride then a platinum wedding band is definitely the right choice. Celebrities like David Beckham have changed attitudes that men have towards beauty and it is no surprise that more and more men are taking more care of their looks, clothes and jewellery. It would seem that more and more men want to have a bit of baling on their wedding day.

Remember if you are buying a platinum wedding band then you will need to check for a hallmark.  All good quality platinum wedding bands as well as gold and silver bands should carry a hallmark. Because of the size and width of a wedding band you will not be able to read the hallmark without a magnifying glass. When you view the hallmark through a magnifying glass you will be able to find all the information about the quality of the platinum wedding band you want to purchase.
