What You must Know About China’s Latest Visa Regulations

Foreign workers trying to procure a business visa for China now have to submit an invitation letter issued by a local corporation or by the Chinese authorities along with other requisites.

The new requirement, in effect since August 2012, requires that the invitation letter:

  • Is issued by a duly authorized unit or a “Confirmation Letter of Invitation” by an authorized Chinese agency, or
  • Is issued by the Chinese local governments, companies, corporations and institutions.

The invitation letter issued by the Chinese companies, corporations and institutions need to be in a specific format and must include:

  • Applicant’s Personal Information: Name, gender, date of birth, passport number, nationality, full company name and exact designation of the employee in the company.
  • Business Tour Details: Purpose of the visit, name of the province, arrival and departure date, relationship between the Chinese and US entity or relationship between the applicant and the inviter, and details of the person responsible for the applicant’s accommodation expenditure.
  • Inviter’s Details: Name of the unit or company that invited the applicant, name of the person who is issuing the letter, the person’s designation in the company, address, phone number and email address.

The invitation letter must be printed on the company letter head, signed by the authorized person and must also have the company seal. For the visa application, only a copy of the invitation letter is required but an original may be requested by the Visa officials.
