Exhilarating Experiences: Rock Climbing Canyoneering

Rock climbing canyoneering takes the sport of rock climbing to a new level. Instead of only climbing the side of a mountain (which is a feat in itself), the person participate in hiking, wading, swimming and climbing, all inside one rock climbing canyoneering trip. Most often, the rock climbing canyoneering trip has to be taken with the help of a professional guide, since many times people have to travel to a park or other area where these trips are available. The trips can take a day or several days depending on what the people want to participate in. The trips also vary according to the person’s ability level so that children and older people can participate in some of the trips, while others are made for the more experienced rock climbing canyoneering participant.

Trips

There are many rock climbing canyoneering trips that can be found in areas near the Rocky Mountains and in the desert regions. Colorado, Utah, Montana and other areas like these have trips that allow all levels of participants to go rock climbing canyoneering. When choosing a rock climbing canyoneering trip, it is important to make sure that the guide is experienced and certified to do so. It should say on the website or in their brochures what guide qualifications that the people working there have.

One rock climbing canyoneering trip is made through a slot canyon in Colorado. It takes place during a half day trip through the Colorado National Monument. The people on the trip will have to climb redrock formations and also rappel off of a cliff during the course of the trek. There is another trip that goes through the Unaweep Canyon, which also requires a lot of climbing and rappelling. It is a full day trip through this environment that requires a four wheel drive vehicle to get into. The rappelling comes into play under the lip of a beautiful waterfall, which is an experience not many people get to enjoy. There is another rappel experience in the trip as well, allowing the person’s heart to jump while sliding down to solid ground again.

There is another rock climbing canyoneering trip that is in Utah, which requires even more courage and exertion. In this trip, people have to swim, rappel, wade through water, and scramble up different formations during the course of the trip. There are forbidding choices to make on the trip, such as going through The Black Hole or Fry Canyon.
